Useful info about Flash Player and ActionScript Versions
Well, in some ways this is just a useful place for me to remember what's happening when targeting different versions of Adobe Flash Player, so I though I'd make it accessible for everyone else too.
Below is a table with details of which version of ActionScript (AS) is compatible with each version of Flash Player:
| Player Version | AS1 | AS2 | AS3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flash Player 4 | Yes | No | No |
| Flash Player 5 | Yes | No | No |
| Flash Player 6 | Yes | Yes | No |
| Flash Player 7 | Yes | Yes |
No |
| Flash Player 8 | Yes | Yes |
No |
| Flash Player 9 | Yes | Yes |
Yes |
| Flash Player 10 | Yes | Yes |
Yes |
The thing to bear in mind is that all each later version of Flash Player tends to introduce new features and along with that new classes and methods that are not supported in earlier versions. There is a really useful site for checking on the details for each Player Version's supported features:

Market Penetration
Obviously as well as knowing what can be used by each Flash Player one of the other considerations is how good is the saturation of each Player across the globe. Luckily for us, Adobe have a useful page for checking the current market penetration:

Happy Flashing.
